Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Arain is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Telecommunication Engineering at Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, with over 20 years of total experience — 20+ years in teaching and 8+ years in research. Since October 2024, he has also served as the department's ISO/QEC Coordinator, responsible for quality assurance, accreditation compliance, and continuous quality improvement processes.

He joined MUET in 2003 as an IT Assistant / Network Administrator, moving through Lab Lecturer (2004–2008) and Lecturer (2008–2009) before being appointed Assistant Professor in 2009, a role he continues to hold. Across these years he has taught undergraduate and master's-level courses, led curriculum design and continuous improvement aligned with PEC/HEC standards, and supervised final year projects, seminars, and student training.

Dr. Arain completed his PhD in Information and Communication Engineering at the Beijing University of Posts & Telecommunications (BUPT), China (2016–2024), supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). His dissertation, "Optimizing Energy Consumption and Network Stability in Multi-Path TCP over Heterogeneous Wireless Networks," underpins his continuing research into energy-efficient MPTCP scheduling using multi-agent deep reinforcement learning.

He is an active researcher and reviewer, with 12 peer-reviewed journal articles, 3 conference papers and 1 book to his name (492 citations, h-index 7, cumulative impact factor 32.21), alongside 140 completed peer reviews across 24 international journals (ORCID verified). He served as Tutorial Chair and Management Committee member for IMTIC 2025 at MUET, and has been selected as a Technical Program Committee member for IEEE HONET 2026.

A Certified CISCO CCNA & CCNA Security Instructor, he also holds a Google Cybersecurity Specialization (2025) and Huawei HCIA-IoT V3.0 (2025). He currently serves as Principal Investigator on an EPICS in IEEE-funded community project deploying a solar-powered IoT drinking water station in rural Tharparkar, Sindh, in partnership with the Al Khidmat Foundation's WASH Program.
