Departmental Committees

Following are the Terms of Reference (ToR) of various Departmental Committees at TL-MUET.

Departmental Management Review Committee

1

To coordinate and control the activities of the quality system being carried out by Teaching & Non-teaching departments/sections in Mehran University of Engineering & Technology and to review the performance of the Quality System at regular intervals.


Departmental Curriculum Revision Committee

1

To collect suggestions/ advices/ observation about curriculum from stakeholders (Alumni, Employers,Teachers, Graduating Students, HEC and PEC).

To review the existing curriculum critically and revise complete curriculum or partially periodically or need based, by taking care of suggestion/advices of stakeholders.

3

To recommend revised curriculum to the BoS for approval and further transmission.


Board of Studies

1

To advise the Authorities on all academic matters concerned with instruction, publication, research and examination in the subject or subjects concerned.

2

To propose curricula and syllabi for all degrees, diploma and certificate courses in the subject or concerned.

3

To suggest a panel of names of paper setters and examiners subjects concerned.

4

To perform such other functions as may be assigned to them by the Statutes or Regulations.


Program Committee

1

To design the OBE based structure of the program curriculum and activities to be presented to BoS and further competent forums for review and approval.

To prepare the plan for executing the approved OBE based program structure, curriculum and activities.

3

To develop and maintain Self-Assessment Report periodically.

4

To maintain continuous quality improvement through a close loop mechanism.


Industry Advisory Board

The industry advisory board has been constituted to make sure the involvement of the industry stakeholders in the designing, reviewing and whenever needed revising the program curriculum and activities in order to make sure the graduates have adequate knowledge, skills and attitude as per industry and market requirements. The committee comprises 10 members, 5 from industry and 5 from the faculty.


Industrial Liaison Committee

To manage student’s internships and study visits.

To get various feedbacks from Alumni and industry stakeholders whenever needed.

3

To communicate job opportunities to graduating students and fresh graduates, and manage job recruitment related activities whenever needed.


Project Committee

1

To scrutinize the thesis/project groups.

2

To organize initial seminar of BE thesis/project in the 7th semester of final year batch.

3

To evaluate and recommend necessary changes to be made in the title and objectives of thesis/project.

4

To communicate the recommendations of the committee to the concerned students and thesis supervisor(s), if any.


Final Year Project Panel

1

To organize final seminar of BE thesis/project of final year batch.

2

To evaluate and award marks to the individual student of each thesis/project group.

3

To recommend necessary changes to be made in the thesis/project.

4

To communicate the recommendations of the committee to the concerned students and thesis supervisor(s).


Departmental Disciplinary Committee

In the case of an unsolicited event in the department or outside, where the students of this department are involved, the discipline committee will be instructed by the chairman with the immediately available information of the incident to investigate further. Whereas, the committee should find out the original cause of the incident.

This may involve asking the involved students to give a verbal and written statement on judicial stamppaper and any other eye witness of the incident.

The committee is also authorized to question anyone from the faculty, staff or the students regarding the unwanted event.

After a comprehensive inquiry, the committee will submit its finding within 3 to 6 days of receiving the formal complaint from the Chairman.

A complaint box is also installed for any anonymous complaints of the students in the department, which must be checked periodically.


Departmental Purchase Committee

After the approval by the worthy Vice Chancellor or his nominee, to purchase any items for the department, the Department Purchase Committee (DPC) should be provided with the list of items to be purchased along with three quotations.

The DPC has the limited authority to purchase the items of worth less than Rs. 30,000/- (thirty thousand only), unless upon special approval from the Vice Chancellor or his nominee.

The members of the DPC should physically visit the market to confirm the availability and price of the items, only after which the committee will decide to purchase the items.

The committee should finally submit the original receipt of the items, inclusive of any sales tax, for the reimbursement or advance adjustment of the spent amount.

The committee is also authorized to ask any concerned faculty member (specialist in the related field) to visit the market with the members to appropriately purchase the items.
