The Department of Telecommunication Engineering (TLE), Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro in collaboration with IEEE COMSOC and industry partners Somsphere (Pvt.) Ltd., Telenor, and SCT Technologies conducted a 6 days boot camp (30th May – 6th June 2016) on RF Planning and Optimization.
RF Boot Camp was designed for anyone needing a solid foundation for understanding the principles of RF Engineering. This initiative was taken by the team of TLE department leaded by Nafeesa Zaki along with Saadullah Kalwar and Jibran Memon, to prepare students for industry based jobs specifically in Radio Frequency and Core Networks.
The training covered the basics of RF theory such as radio network architecture, RNP process overview, coverage and capacity planning, antenna theory, link budgeting, traffic planning, modulation, channel coding, frequency planning and optimization. Apart from that, it also included hands on practice on MapInfo and TEMS Investigation. For practical understanding, Drive Test and Site Audit of telecom vendor were also included.
The training was conducted by Engr. Mohammad Zubair, RNP/O, from Somosphere. The Drive Test was conducted by Senior DT Engr./Coordinator, Sajjad Ali from Telenor. Whereas, the Site Audit was conducted by Team of Senior Engineers from Telenor at Telenor site situated in Sindh University, Jamshoro.
Altogether 36 students participated in the boot camp. The overall feedback from the students was splendid. Dr. Faisal K. Shaikh, Chairman, TLE, MUET appreciated the efforts of industry partners, IEEE Comsoc, TLE team and students.
